The decision to make Maison Talmühle our name was a process intended to bring together history and future, tradition and modernity. Talmühle is a place that has existed since the 19th century and was shaped by the Fallert family over many decades. The name “Talmühle” is deeply rooted in this place and carries a special history – one of immeasurable value to us. From the outset, we knew that we wanted to respect and continue this legacy without giving up the opportunity to add our own chapter.
At the same time, we live in an age in which the demands and expectations placed on hospitality are changing. We do not turn away from this progress; we seek to integrate it with care. This gave rise to the idea of enriching the traditional Talmühle with an additional, modern element: Maison. In French, the word means “house” or “home”, and that is precisely the feeling we want to create here. During my years in French-speaking countries, I came to appreciate the meaning of this term in particular – there, people often say: Bienvenue à la Maison, meaning “Welcome home.” We wanted to anchor that welcome, with all its warmth and sense of belonging, in the name. Maison Talmühle thus unites the historic charm and hospitality of the house with a modern, elegant note.
We spent a long time considering how to honour tradition while marking the beginning of a new era. With their restaurant here at Talmühle, the Fallert family created a remarkable story that delighted many guests. The decision to retain the name while adapting it is intended to show that the house is evolving while respectfully preserving its roots. Instead of a restaurant with hotel rooms, we now offer apartments with beautifully equipped kitchens, giving guests more space and freedom to make themselves at home and shape their time with us as they wish. Our farm shop offers culinary enjoyment at Michelin-star level, continuing Talmühle’s familiar quality in a new way. The name Maison Talmühle expresses exactly that: Talmühle remains – while reinventing itself.
For us, the name is an invitation to experience Maison Talmühle not simply as a hotel, but as a place of familiarity and arrival. The house is intended as a refuge where guests feel not like visitors, but part of a temporary home. We want to offer them the warmth and connection that have always accompanied us here in the Black Forest. Tradition is a valuable foundation. We know that what we are building today is possible only because it rests on what was created in the past. For us, Maison Talmühle embodies a sense of permanence that remains open to change – a name that reflects the spirit of this special place in every detail.
